Senior to senior. We've sat in your seat.

Every Groundwork Sales closer has built and exited their own agency. They've signed the bad contract, fired the wrong hire, and learned what a retainer actually has to look like before they took this seat. Your prospects can tell.

Groundwork Sales · Operating Principle
01  ·  The problem

Agencies built by craftspeople are terrible at selling.

You started your agency because you're good at the work. You can build the brand, run the campaign, ship the site. The problem is that the work doesn't sell itself — and nobody on your team wants the sales seat, including you.

So you've tried the alternatives. An SDR farm sent 4,000 cold emails and booked three meetings with the wrong companies. A fractional CRO promised a "scalable revenue engine" and produced a Notion doc. The last hire you made for sales was good on the phone and couldn't read a P&L, which meant every deal turned into a negotiation you had to step into anyway.

Closing six-figure agency retainers requires someone who can hold the room with a CMO, push back on scope creep without losing the deal, and price the work to actually leave margin. That's a senior operator. There aren't a lot of them. And the ones who exist already have their own thing going.

02  ·  What we do

Exited founders, closing for the next generation.

We take over the closing seat for a small number of growing agencies each year. You stay on the work. We sit in the calls that matter, run the proposals, hold the line on price, and bring the deals home.

03  ·  How we charge

We don't get paid until you do.

Most agency-fractional sales firms charge a retainer for activity. We don't. The split below is how every engagement works — and every conversation we have starts by making sure the math is honest on both sides.

Component 01

Floor retainer

A small monthly minimum that covers calendar, tooling, and the time we spend understanding your work. Set against the first close — credited back when a deal lands.

Component 02

Performance split

A percentage of closed/won revenue, structured so we're never more expensive than hiring a senior in-house seller, and we make real money only when you make real money.

If we can't close deals on those terms, we shouldn't be in your business. That's the whole bet.

04  ·  Who we close for

Growing agencies. $500K to $5M.

Creative, performance, web, and dev shops. Bootstrapped or lightly capitalized. Founder-led. Already winning work, but the founder is still the only seller — and they shouldn't be.

We work especially well with agencies that have a clear "we're good at this" story, an existing referral base they aren't mining, and a founder who would rather spend the next year inside the work than inside HubSpot.

We're not a fit for early-stage agencies still figuring out their offer, or for shops that need a marketing engine more than they need a closer. If you don't have warm conversations to convert, we'll tell you — and point you somewhere else.

Stop pitching. Start closing.

One email. We'll look at your last ten proposals and tell you whether we can help — and if we can't, who can.
